Messaging Performance Audit (MPA)

Softek Panther users recognize how Panther helps in the day-to-day handling of their Cerner Millennium® production environment. But many of our clients have indicated they rarely have the time or the experience to examine the underlying issues or trends that may be occurring within the system. Now there’s a new service to help you examine your EMR system to ensure that it is running at peak performance.

The Messaging Performance AuditTM (MPA) is an in-depth examination and expert analysis of your Cerner Millennium® production environment. We remotely gather the necessary data using Panther, then analyze that data and identify the specific steps to take to realize additional gains in system performance and stability.

Whether you’re self- or remote-hosted, the MPA will provide you the information and analysis you need as well as expert recommendations to increase the performance and stability of your system. Our MPA service includes:

1. Clinical and Financial Risks
The effective identification and management of the messaging systems in the Millennium® architecture can mitigate risks that affect patient data, the clinical end-user experience and financial data. Without swift action on identified issues, your organization may experience duplicate or missing patient data, financial loss due to missed or orphaned transactions, and missing tasks or orders. The MPA will identify clinical and financial risks current to your Cerner Millennium® system.

2. Clinical Queuing in Millennium®
Elements of the messaging system rely on processes managed by Millennium®, IBM MQ Series, Oracle, Charting, RRD and the operating system to deliver information to the clinical end-users. System anomalies can impact the retrieval of data by the user. Without effective management and maintenance of these system processes, clinical queuing will persist...impacting performance and throughput. The MPA will uncover issues with these processes and recommend the necessary adjustments for optimal performance.

3. Clinical Queuing Outside of Millennium®
Similar to Clinical Queuing in Millennium®, there are also elements of the messaging system that reside outside of Cerner in the foreign systems. Also known as Open Engine, this technology handles data flowing inbound and outbound to and from Cerner and the foreign systems. Queuing in these areas can impact the end-users’ ability to receive the needed information in a timely manner. The MPA looks into these transaction processes to find problem areas and recommends the necessary adjustments for optimal performance.

4. Consistency/Stability Issues
Maintaining consistent system configurations within the environment is a key to improving efficiency in the clinical system. Consistency can improve overall stability, ensuring that Millennium® is meeting end-user expectations with no disruptive behavior. If not addressed, inconsistencies will lead to instabilities within the system and will create poor performance, disruptions and errors in clinical workflow. The MPA will resolve these issues by identifying the inconsistencies and recommending appropriate actions to take to restore system performance and stability.
