Web Enable an Existing Mainframe Application
Softek was responsible for gathering requirements, estimating effort, developing the application, testing, rollout at two alpha sites, and training of client developers to take over the source code at the end of the project. The eight-month project involved web enabling a legacy application utilizing ASP, XML, ActiveX, VB Script, Java Script, Java Applets, C++ DLLs, and VB DLLs. The project also involved integration into existing COBOL routines, a proprietary database, and SQL Server 7.0. The company had previously been told by developers within the organization that the project could not be completed in less than 12 months with a team of 8 to 10 developers. Softek completed the job four weeks ahead of schedule with a team of six developers.
Develop an Online Testing Application
Softek was responsible for developing an internet site that allows nursing students to take a variety of tests either online, or with traditional “bubble-sheets.” The six-month project involved designing a database schema, and developing a web site utilizing ASP, VB Script, Java Script, and SQL Server 7.0, as well as developing several utilities for internal use to allow for test creation and maintenance of the database. The company previously attempted to develop this application with another group of developers, who failed after spending six months on the project. Softek completed the project well ahead of schedule.
Develop a Traveler Information System
Softek worked with two engineering companies for a department of transportation to develop a travel and recreation information program. Softek developed all of the software for the multithreaded client-server application, as well as providing mechanisms for pumping the traffic information to the web, radio, and phone service. Softek was also responsible for the design of the database schema that contains, among other things, all historical data gathered from the traffic sensors (currently, approximately 20 million rows of data). Softek is also responsible for the support of this system, which has generated approximately six support calls a year. The first call occurred three months after installation, when someone had rebooted his computer but forgotten his NT sign-on because it was the first time he had had to reboot since installation. Most other support calls relate to hardware failures.
Develop Pharmacy Server
Softek worked as the senior architect on a pharmacy application for a Kansas City based company, playing the lead role in developing the infrastructure for this mission-critical application. Softek was brought into the project after several lead developers in the company left abruptly. In a period of three months, the application was developed and the first site convertedproof of our capability to jump into a project and understand the business problem from the client’s perspective quickly and efficiently.
