Core Service Setup
Here's a tip to make sure you're notified immediately if any core services connections are interrupted. The Panther5 Service Accepting Connections (SAC) sensor now allows users to specify services as "core services." Core services are essential services required for the rest of the Cerner Millennium® system to respond correctly. If any of the core services cease accepting connections, the rest of the system will suffer ill effects, potentially slowing down or shutting off access to client applications entirely. Core services typically affect connectivity to one or more other services.
The SAC sensor tests core services every poll, before any other services. If one or more core services cease accepting connections, the sensor switches into a mode where only core services are tested and sends a notification. Once all core services resume accepting connections, the sensor switches back and begins to test non-core services once more.
Good candidates for core service status are as follows:
authorize
decoder
security
securitymaster
securityslave
tdb_system
tdbmaster_system
tdbquery_system
scp_(node)
qcp_(node)
jou_(node)
msg_(node)
Please be advised that care must be taken in selecting core services. Setting too many core services as candidates may cause excess network traffic and lead to unwanted notifications. If you have a question regarding which core services are recommended for your individual hospital needs, log on to www.softekpanther.com/support to post your question.
